     1. You require structure

Early sobriety can be a confusing time. Most likely, you are used to getting over a hangover, work and more substance abuse. Now you will have to consciously schedule your day to support your recovery and promote a healthy lifestyle.

     2. Find new habits

Suppose your previous routine was to come home from work and open a beer to destress. What are you going to do now when you come home and have no plan? You would drink or go crazy! Maybe even both. Find a healthy habit, go for a run, learn to cook something new or pick up a book. 

     3. Keep yourself busy

Boredom and too much "thinking time" are some of the biggest downfalls of sobriety. The more time your mind is idle, the more likely you will start listening to the inner voice that encourages you to use. Actively fill your day; your life needs stability and goals to gain a sense of achievement.


What Your Routine Can Include

A routine helps you establish a consistent rhythm to your days; this is important for your body and mind to learn and adjust to a particular pattern. Your mental wellbeing relies on how well your body is doing. Your routine can include:

  • Sleeping habits
  • Exercise
  • Socialization time
  • Work
  • Cleaning around the house
  • Hobbies
  • Support groups
  • Hygiene
  • Self-reflection or meditation
